Portland Wild

Portland Wild is a map-driven tour of Portland's protected Heritage Trees (e.g. tallest, largest, unique), its public art murals around the city (there are hundreds) and its Little Free Libraries.

This site uniquely displays dynamic images of trees and art on Google Maps making it faster and more fun to explore the city.

Users can favorite, mark as visited in their Passport and build a sightseeing plan for each item and many items.

The map page makes use of Yii2 server caching as well as browser local storage caching to improve performace under regular usage.

The sightseeing algorithm dynamically optimizes a route and links to Google maps/directions in groups of ten (since that is the Google limit.)
